Hubertus is the patron saint of riders. The name of the Hubertus Housing Estate refers to its close neighborhood to the Warsaw horse racing track. The Służewiec Racecourse, today an architectural monument of the interwar period and one of Warsaw’s tourist attractions, was built according to the rules of the so-called Polish functionalism. Zygmunt Plater-Zyberk, a famous Warsaw architect, was the author of the design. Put into use on 3 June 1939, the venue was Europe’s most modern “race village”. In total, 11 thousand spectators could fit into the three tribunes! In the elegant pavillion of the first tribune, the social life of the “high society” flourished...
Nowadays, horse races still take place at the Warsaw Racecourse. “And they’re off!” The people of Warsaw discover the Służewiec racing track anew as an attractive leisure space and an exciting entertainment venue. Thanks to the racecourse, Służewiec reclaims its position of a significant and recognized spot on the map of Warsaw.
